Following are the instructions for grocers to pass along to their shoppers who would like to receive mobile promos via Twitter. Before you give it to them, make sure your Twitter account is set up, and enter the URL of your Twitter profile here:
Grocer’s Twitter Profile: http://twitter.com/(GROCER’S TWITTER ACCOUNT NAME GOES HERE)
Shoppers, here’s how to do it…
_________________________
Step 1: Set up a Twitter account.
_________________________

Visit the Twitter home page and click the button that reads, “Get Started — Join.” Then follow the steps to create your account.
_________________________
Step 2: Follow your grocer’s Twitters.
_________________________

Follow the link from your grocer to visit its Twitter profile, where you will see a “Follow” button like in the example above. Click the utton to follow your grocer’s tweets.
_________________________
Step 3: Associate your mobile device with your Twitter account.
_________________________
To associate your mobile device with your twitter account, click the “Settings” tab in the upper-right corner of your profile page. You’ll be directed to your account settings page, like the sample customer profile I created above. Click on the “Devices” tab.
Enter the phone number of your mobile device beginning with “+1″ followed by the area code and number as in the close-up above. Check the box saying it’s okay for Twitter to send messages to your phone, then click “Send.”
_________________________
Step 4: Verify your mobile device number.
_________________________
To verify your mobile device number, text the code provided by Twitter to 40404. For my sample customer account, the code, as you can see in the above image, is tjtagt.
_________________________
Step 5: Set your mobile device preferences.
_________________________
Once you verify your phone, you can set up the preferences for your mobile device in the Devices tab of your account settings, which is basically letting Twitter know how it can communicate with you — and when. Set your device updates to “On,” and if you’d prefer not to receive text messages during a certain time, you can enter that information, as well.
_________________________
Step 6: Turn on Device updates for your grocer’s Twitter account.
_________________________
Return to your grocer’s Twitter profile. It will look like my sample grocer profile above. As you can see in the box, you are following samplegrocer, ut your device updates are set to “Off.” Click the box to turn them on.
_________________________
Congratulations, You’re Finished!
_________________________
Once you click the box, you should see a message like in the image above. For my SampleShopper Twitter account, device updates are now on for SampleGrocer, which it follows. Now whenever SampleGrocer Tweets a promotion, it will be sent to SampleShopper’s mobile devide. By clicking the link in the tweet, SampleShopper willl be taken to a page with the grocer’s promos.
